ANKERRE PARK OFFICIAL OPENING

Ankerre Park Opening

Ankerre Park, Kilgariff Estate’s newest park, was officially opened this month by The Honourable Natasha Fyles MLA, Chief Minister of the Northern Territory and His Worship the Mayor Mr Matt Paterson, Mayor of Alice Springs.

An event to celebrate the new park opening was held on Saturday 20 May and was a massive success, with people coming from all around Alice Springs to enjoy the day with their families. There was face painting, jumping castle, fairy floss, plaster painting, cookie decorating, cakes, a BBQ and more.

A sausage sizzle also helped to keep everyone warm, with snags prepared by and fundraising for the Alice Springs Brothers Rugby League Club.

The Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation facilitated a Welcome to Country and ceremonial dancing, to kick off the formalities of the event.

One attendee said, “It’s been a great event that was well organised and made sure to cater for the whole family. We’ve had such a fun day!”

The new park features play equipment, a flying fox, and large grassed area with football goals for multiple codes. If you are in Alice Springs make sure to check out the new park.

LDC would like to thank all local businesses involved in arranging the day!
